Call for Contributions
DLM-Forum Brighton Triennial & ARMA International European Conference
Date: 13-15th September. 2017

The DLM Forum & ARMA International are now accepting proposals for speakers for this year’s conference in Brighton.
Submission of proposals by experts in all relevant fields, including information governance, public administration, legal, data protection, risk management ICT, records management, archives, and research, will be welcomed.
Proposals must be submitted on-line and are accepted for communications, posters, and tutorials or workshops:
- The proposals can be either for a position paper or a full paper. Position papers may present new ideas, or initiatives, or proposals for the future. Full papers may present case studies of your work, e.g. on the results of projects and implementations or research, or best practices.
- Proposals for posters providing solutions to new problems, approaches or work in progress are also welcome (posters can be complemented with local demonstrations).
- The conference can be preceded by one day of workshops and tutorials. These workshops and tutorials will be complementary to the conference and will provide participants with educational opportunities that will contribute to their professional knowledge and skills.
The conference will consist of plenary sessions for all participants and parallel sessions that will be divided into streams representing different aspects of information governance.
Stream 1: Information management: regulatory challenges versus data exploitation
As governments and civil society attempt to catch up with the digital revolution, information rights and regulatory issues are increasingly in the spotlight. While information flows freely across borders, there is no global regulatory environment but rather a patchwork of local ones. The perception and actuality of information rights varies across regions. This creates obstacles for the cross-border availability of content (e.g. copyright, data protection) as well as uncertainty about the extent and consequences of the exercise of extraterritorial jurisdiction.
The digital single market attempts to deal with these issues and bring more clarity at the level of the EU. However, increasing regulation, scrutiny by individual regulators and pressure from civil society as well as Brexit and a new American administration, all add to an uncertain future. Stream 1 welcomes submissions that look into the regulatory challenges for information management and whether global governance is necessary and possible.
- Data Protection (including data use/re-use, surveillance, and government data sharing)
- Other regulatory issues (including the digital single market, copyright and digital rights management)
- Information Rights and Civil Society across and between jurisdictions
- Information management and privacy post Brexit and the context of the new American administration
Stream 2: New approaches to information governance
Businesses and governments are increasingly looking to new technology and software to increase efficiency and exploit new opportunities. This has created a new area of risk for information governance meaning new techniques and approaches are needed.
Stream 2 focuses on current research and case studies from organisations looking to introduce wider information governance through the use of strategy, principles and technology and data types (e.g. Internet of Things).
- Methodologies for defining and building information governance frameworks within an organisation
- Case studies on implementing information governance frameworks within an organisation
- Solutions for identifying / measuring risk to an organisation in relation to its information (e.g. using ARMA’s “The Principles” or EDRM “Information Governance Reference Model”)
- Position papers on the impact of cyber security and technology risks and how to mitigate them
Stream 3: Practical approaches to data management
The volume and availability of data is increasing exponentially, transforming the way we work, interact and communicate. To make sense of this data, data management and the ability to exploit data are becoming ever more important for both private and public sector organisations. Increasingly documents are being used and seen as data too. The challenges posed by data management have to be addressed, including the identification and governance of data sources, data quality, assessing and ensuring the value of data, metadata management, data reliability, data preservation, and data security. Stream 3 has a special focus on practical approaches, including case studies.
- Case Studies (data management, data source governance, data quality, data value, metadata management, data reliability, data preservation, and data security)
- Bridging the practical data skills gap (What Skills do organisations have, What skills do they need? How can organisations bridge the gap?)
- Open-data and re-use of data (including research data and e-Government challenges)
- Digital Archiving and role of archives as producers, custodians and users of data
- Digitisation of Europe’s cultural heritage and cultural heritage data management
Authors should submit a contribution in English, carefully checked for correct grammar and spelling, addressing one or several of the conference streams. Submissions should be made through EasyChair conference management system.

Contributions should include the name(s), affiliation and contacts of the author(s). Contributions will be reviewed based on a title, an abstract, and a list of keywords. Authors should also select the stream(s) that relate with the contribution, and the type of the contribution (full paper, position paper, poster, workshop or tutorial). All information should be submitted through the EasyChair submission form.
Contributions will be reviewed by at least three members of the Scientific Committee based on relevance, originality, significance and presentation. Reviewers can provide free text observations to the authors. If the contribution is accepted authors will be requested to update their contribution and submit a paper through EasyChair. Only PDF files are accepted.

By submitting a paper, authors implicitly agree that at least one of them will register to the conference and present the paper. It is expected that at least one author will register for each accepted paper. Guidelines for each contribution type follow below.
It is recommended that full papers are submitted with around 8 to 10 pages, with the appropriate font size and page format, including references, tables, graphs, images and appendices. Full papers may present case studies of your work, e.g. on the results of projects and implementations or research, or best practices.
It is recommended that position papers are submitted with around 4 to 6 pages, with the appropriate font size and page format, including references, tables, graphs, images and appendices. Position papers may present new ideas, or initiatives, or proposals for the future.
Proposals for posters providing solutions to new problems, approaches or work in progress are welcome (posters can be complemented with local demonstrations). Poster contributions do not require to submit a paper. Instructions on poster size(s) will be published soon.
It is recommended that workshops and tutorials submit a paper with around 1 to 2 pages detailing the subject, scope, program strand, intended content, intended audience, and expected learning outcomes. These workshops and tutorials will be complementary to the conference and should provide participants with educational opportunities that will contribute to their professional knowledge and skills.
